Calcio Mercato: Parma stepping up / Roma set to advance

Parma, not content with just making it back to the big time next season, have added former Roma, Chelsea and Real Madrid defender Christian Panucci. Panucci boasts a wealth of experience an Parma have made a very good addition to help them stay up next season. He joins Valeri Bojinov at the Stadio Tardini next season, who will link up with the promising Alberto Paloschi, who carries Serie A experience already after a season with Milan.

Roma Set to advance
Roma responded to an early scare against AA Gent in the third qualifying round of the Europa League to take the first leg 3-1 at the Stadio Olimpico thanks to Mexes, Totti and Vucinic. Mexes leveled the tie in the 56 minute and the Totti gave il Lupi the lead from the penalty spot in the 73rd. Finally, Mirko Vucinic put Roma's foot firmly in the fourth round as he scored after coming off the bench. Roma were without Aquilani, Juan, and Vucinic for most of the match. This is a good start for the Italian sides in Europe, and in the Europa League I believe it is realistic to have high hopes for Genoa, Lazio and Roma who all could go very deep and indeed win this competition.

Roma to keep Aquiliani, Cruz saga continues...
Roma it would appear are going to hold on to the talented Italy International Alberto Aquilani. The Roman native has when not injured been excellent for Roma, often scoring spectacular goals. Due to a lack of funds in the Roma camp it was believed that they would have to sell before they would buy and Aquiliani was rumoured to be the sacrificial lamb. However, Aquilani's agent has poured cold water on these rumours stating that he would remain in the Italian capital and that he had not been involved in any negotiations with the believed destination that was Liverpool. This could be crucial for Roma. There chances of any silverware were ruined last season due to injuries. If they can keep their current squad together and find a hitman then they could be a dark horse for the Scudetto. Indeed, it now seems a two horse race between Roma and Lazio as to who will end up with former Inter Milan striker Julio Cruz. However, he is the type of Player that will benefit any ambitious side and the likes of Palermo or Napoli could still figure in this saga.

Milan to turn to La Liga duo of Fabiano and Sneijder
Milan, after a dreadful start in pre season have again been linked to Luis Fabiano of Sevilla and Wesley Sneijder of Real Madrid. Milan are in desperate need of quality additions especially if they want to challenge on all three fronts this season and these two players could fit the bill for them.
