Champions League: History beckons for Fiorentina

Fiorentina have a great opportunity tonight to make history for their club and put themselves in the last eight of the Champions League. A packed Franchi will hope to inspire the Viola to get past Bayern Munich tonight after the disgraceful officiating that blighted a good game in the first leg. First, there was the red card, and then Bayern's omission of one when a similar foul occurred and then of course there was the goal by Bayern that was five yards offside. More than frustrating for Fiorentina for sure, but a vital away goal was registered and all that is needed now is a 1-0 victory and the Viola are home and dry. This will be no easy task however, as Bayern now find themselves top of the Bundesliga with a two point advantage of Schalke 04. They have been formidable at home, with 9 wins and 4 draws but not so much on the road with 6 wins, 4 draws and 2 defeats. Fiorentina however do not sit top of Serie A, in fact they are as it stands 10th in Serie A and just lost at home at the weekend to Juve. However, in Europe this season they have come alive with victories over Liverpool and Lyon at home in the group stages, and it is this influx of matches and the stretching of their squad that in reality forces them into 10th in the league rather than a higher position. However, tonight should be seen as an opportunity to reap the reward rather than capitulate against a European giant.
